This past week, my friend Anna (Slightly Astray) came to visit us in Seattle. It was so nice to see her again (we haven’t seen each other since China!) and I loved showing her around my city. We ate non-stop all week and probably gained a few pounds consuming tons and tons of sweets. One night, we even ate a pasta appetizer at Beecher’s before heading to dinner to eat more pasta at Ristorante Machiavelli. We then split a giant piece of lemon meringue cake for dessert (obviously) at the Starbucks Reserve. No regrets.
Aside from the fun we had in the city, we also took a mini trip out to Lopez Island because my boss so generously offered his home to us for the night. Visiting “the islands” is a big part of the culture here in Washington, so it was great being able to show Anna what ferry life is like for us Washingtonians.
After consuming giant pancakes and French toast at Portage Bay Cafe on Saturday morning, we made the 1.5 hour trip to Anacortes to catch the ferry to Lopez Island. We were blessed with sunny skies which is a rare sight to see this time of year in these parts!
After getting off the ferry, we made our way to the house, quickly unpacked, and then ventured out on a hike to squeeze in some more time outdoors before the sunlight disappeared.
We hiked out to Iceberg Point which had the most beautiful views of the mountains to our left, and we spotted lots of adorable seals bobbing around in the water below.
After our hike, we picked up some groceries and then headed back to the house to make spicy pesto pasta for dinner. Yum… It really hit the spot.
We ended our night by building a fire in the living room and falling asleep shortly after watching a dark comedy called Little Evil. (Okay, I actually fell asleep part-way through.) I honestly can’t remember the last time I was able to watch a movie without falling asleep! I’m getting so old…
Adam went on a short run in the morning, and then we packed up and drove back to the ferry to return to Seattle. It was a short but sweet visit to such a beautiful place, and I’m so happy Anna was able to join us! As always, thanks for reading. xo

Looks like a great time. Beautiful images too. I know this wasn’t really part of the post but that pesto dish looks amazing. Do you have a recipe you could share?
amandaaude@gmail.com says
It was so good! We just bought a pre-made package of pesto, and then added garlic, red pepper flakes, tomatoes, and mushrooms! Super easy and tasty.

Yay! I’m so glad I could come visit you in Seattle, and it was such a nice mini getaway to Lopez Island! I think that was actually my favorite part of the trip! I didn’t even know that there were all these little islands off of Washington, so it was so cool to get to experience that. Thanks a million to your boss for offering his cute little cabin to us. Also – I am craving that delicious pancake from Portage Bay again! It was sooo good.

I saw Anna’s photo on IG of the place you stayed – it looked so special! And wow, the woodstove! It makes me a bit homesick looking at the photos but in a really good way.. I feel like I am experiencing it with you guys. Glad you had a great time and beautiful pictures! Lopez is a great place for a quick visit. I love how sleepy it is compared to Orcas or San Juan.

I know – his place is soooo cool. I hope to have a home half as lovely someday! Sleepy is a great way to describe Lopez! So true – I love that about it.
