Okay, so I’m sitting here in a coffee shop trying to decide if this is an appropriate thing to blog about. At first I was like, yeah, why not? It’s a public museum. It’s educational. Whatever. But then a guy came up to me and asked what the wifi network name was here and I didn’t know what to do because I had all these penises up on my screen and I panicked because I know he saw them and it made me feel weird and now I’m wondering if maybe this isn’t an appropriate thing to blog about after all.
So here’s what I’ll do. I’m going to blog about it anyway, but I’m going to warn you now that this post is #NSFW. There’s your warning.
That being said, if you would rather not see images of genitalia, do not keep reading. LEAVE NOW! But, if you are in fact interested to read about and/or see images of genitalia and hear about my visit to The Icelandic Phallological Museum in Reykjavík, Iceland, then I definitely encourage you to keep reading. 🙂
So when I heard there was a penis museum in Iceland, I knew we would definitely be checking it out at some point during our trip. Things like that are too weird to pass up… Right? Right.
We awkwardly made our way into the museum one evening, paid the guy our entrance fee, and then tried to keep straight faces as he handed us brochures explaining the different pieces we’d be seeing throughout the museum.
I think the funniest part of the whole thing was seeing other people walking around holding brochures like we were, trying so hard to act like they were there for educational purposes. They’d walk around slowly with their hands interlaced behind their backs, bending down to read placards the way they would at any other museum, but I just didn’t buy it. We all know you aren’t here for educational purposes… You aren’t fooling anyone!
But, to be fair, it was pretty interesting and I did learn a thing or two… I guess. I found that Iceland as a whole sort of had a dirty sense of humor. In most of the gift shops, you could buy things like dirty joke books, horse poop candy, shirts like this, or these funny condoms. I wouldn’t say stopping at this museum was the highlight of our trip, but if you’re planning on going to Iceland anytime soon, I definitely recommend visiting! (Oh, and it’s cash only, just FYI!)

This may sound weird, but I’m SO GLAD to see you post this! My husband and I visited Iceland a few months ago and stopped by the museum ourselves. I haven’t shared too many of the photos with friends since it’s an, um, unusual experience but I will now that I’ve seen your post. 🙂 You’ve inspired me to just go for it. That’s what traveling/adventuring is about, eh? It was such a treat to watch other people examine the displays…especially the one you had to lift up the black cloth to see? Hehehe…

Ha! Love it. You should totally share your photos!

This is kind of disgusting but I am also sitting here laughing my head off?? Like what the hell Iceland!! Hahahah. I went to the Sex Museum when I was in Amsterdam and it was the same, like all these people wandering around nodding solemnly like it was a normal museum but inside we all knew why we were there lol!
