Hoh Rainforest

Over the weekend, we took a trip to Forks, Washington to visit the Hoh Rainforest. Adam and I have been there once before, about nine or so years ago, but we visited in the summer and it was a much different experience!

It's super wet and mossy in there in the winter. You feel like you're breathing the freshest air on Earth, and there are certain parts that truly feel like you're on the set of a movie. It's so hard to photograph because it's just that unreal.

But, I tried my best! Here are a few photos I took while we were there. It definitely would have been cool to have some sun shining through the trees, but oh well...

Lily started out strong, but our first mistake was starting the hike around lunchtime. We got a bit sidetracked feeding the animals at the Airbnb we stayed at (photos to come!), so we got on the road later than expected. Sooo, a hungry toddler demanding snacks every 5 seconds, mixed with wet, cold hands and a runny nose and nap time just around the corner... it wasn't the best combo, haha.

But we did complete the entire Hall of Mosses Trail (a little under a mile) even if we did have to carry her toward the end.

I was a little worried for a while because my camera wouldn't turn back on. It was pretty wet in there and my camera was getting lots of water droplets on it. I should have thought to bring an umbrella. I dried it off and put it away for a while, and when we got to a more covered area, I took it out and tried again. Seemed to be working fine, thankfully!

Lily found snow at one point and she was fixated on it! Her hands were already pretty pink and irritated, but it didn't stop her from touching it. She refused to wear gloves and insisted on holding and eating her snacks the majority of the time. I do think this contributed to her crankiness later during the hike. Her eczema tends to flare up when she's cold or hot.

We headed back to the car after to warm up and then headed out to find some lunch. Lily fell asleep pretty quickly as we suspected she might. She was in a much better mood and ready to eat lunch by the time she woke up! Taco Time to the rescue.
