Mount Pilatus // Lucerne, Switzerland
On our first day exploring in Switzerland, we did what everyone should do when they're given the opportunity: take a ride on the steepest cogwheel railway in the world, of course.That ride was crazy. We were basically vertical in our seats, click-click-clicking our way up to the top, similar to how a roller coaster feels. We saw Swiss cows with noisy bells around their necks, blue skies that stretched for miles and miles, and stunning mountain peaks in every direction. At the very top of the lookout, we even met a couple from the Midwest, oh ya.
Something Adam and I really loved about Switzerland was the lack of tourists, everywhere we went. It was great! I know we're tourists, so it's a bit hypocritical to say that, haha, but still, it was nice visiting a new place without hoards of people everywhere. I think we just missed the crazy tourism season. We chose a great time of year to get married! Our anniversary trips from here on out will hopefully be the same.
After you leave the lookout area, you can head back down on the aerial cableway. I don't think this is for the faint of heart. It felt like we were flying! It was a super smooth, quiet ride among the clouds.
Can you imagine attending a service at that church?? Wowza. After coming down halfway in the cable car, you can then hop off and transfer to the panoramic gondola because I mean, of course Switzerland took the time to plan out three separate, awesome forms of transportation for tourists to choose from in the area... Why wouldn't they?
I might get in trouble for saying this, but this part of Switzerland sort of felt like a Wisconsin-Washington hybrid. It felt like Washington because of the views, but then it also sort of had a Wisconsin vibe because of the cows and the blonde people everywhere (lol). Transportation is obviously A+ in Switzerland and has both places beat (clearly), but still... It felt like a nice little home away from home (in my opinion) and I'm so glad we took the time to do this! If you're planning on visiting Lucerne, I highly recommend you do the same.
