Somehow, it’s been over a year since Adam and I went to Iceland. Two of my best friends are honeymooning there right now and seeing their beautiful photos has made me so jealous! I’m also a big fan of Unlocking Kiki and her posts always make me swoon. Since I still have hundreds of photos of my own I haven’t really sorted through or organized yet, I thought I’d share some today as a #ThrowbackThursday type post… (Something like that.)
While we were in the land of fire and ice, we rented a car for only a few days, so to get out of Reykjavik for a while and to take a break from all the tours we were doing, we ventured out in search of the hot springs on our own. It was rainy and windy and SO cold that day, but it was awesome watching the Earth come alive in such a strange way.
I probably have a million or so photos from this place alone, so it was hard to pick only a few to share! The colors were so vibrant. I wanted to bottle them all up and take them home with me.
One tour we really enjoyed was the horseback riding tour. It was better than I thought it was going to be and one of the definite highlights of our trip. (I was so sore the next morning, though; I literally spent 20 minutes crying in bed because I couldn’t move… Sorry you have to put up with me, Adam.)
Icelandic horses tölt, which is an extra special gait, specific to their breed. They were graceful and small and so well-behaved. We walked across rushing streams and had to duck under branches as the horses all ran through the woods. We passed a gorgeous hot spring area and stopped only once while on the tour just to sip hot cocoa and give the little guys a break. It was cold and rainy this day too, of course, but that’s just how Iceland rolls. It didn’t bother us one bit!
We both look so derpy in that photo, but I don’t even care. We were hyped and having an awesome time. I wonder what my little horse is up to these days… I miss him and his emo hair. If/when we go back to Iceland, I’d definitely do this again!
Thanks for reading! Check out my other Iceland posts here.

Awesome photos! I haven’t been to Iceland – my boyfriend went last year for the Iceland Airwaves Festival. I’m hoping next time he goes back (maybe next year?) I can join him 🙂

I love them, too! 🙂 I have so many I could post… I’m so bad at keeping up with trips in real time on the blog!

Amazing! What time of year did you visit?

I went in early May. It was a strange time in a way because winter was ending, so a lot of the cool snowy tours we wanted to go on had already ended, and some of the other summer ones weren’t operating yet. But it was still really pretty, regardless!

What a beautiful country and fantastic adventure!! We’ve just started seeing flights to Iceland in our market, and they’ve been running some really great deals on the flights. I think I’d like to do the horseback riding tour (except the pain… I would be the same as you, lol) because the scenery just seems surreal! Those lakes are incredible – the blue water is just mesmerizing!
amandaaude@gmail.com says
It was such a fun adventure!! Besides the pain, lol.

What time of year were you there? Also, did you experience the tölt? I almost flew right off my little horsie when it did this tölt – then made the mistake of later telling my partner this and he refused to try it! But I’m glad you had a nice ride… it makes me hopeful that they won’t all be so “eventful” 🙂

We were there in May, which was an odd time since most of the winter tours had already ended, but most of the summer tours hadn’t started yet. We weren’t able to catch the Northern Lights, either. But yes, we experienced the tölt! It was pretty cool. They’re such interesting horses!

Haha your orange suits!! Amazing. Iceland is just other worldly isn’t it?!
amandaaude@gmail.com says
Lol they were so dorky! But worth it since we were so cold. And yessss it was so special.
